Another wonderful Dutchism
Well, we made it back to the Netherlands after a marathon driving session . We were welcomed back from the 10 hour, 1200km trip all the way from Nice to a 4 hour, 200km trip across Holland. I think they send these road engineers to Bangladesh for school. They not only shut down the main artery to Amsterdam completely, which I have never seen done - but created a 1.5 hour traffic jam at 1am with wonderful traffic control. I already miss French driving...but it's nice to be back!
As we wrap up a wonderful two and a half weeks in France, I count myself an official Francophile. This country is wonderful, and the people just as much so. The roads are perfect, you have to work really hard to get lost – they have signs for the town center and every campsite and hotel, no matter how small the town. The food is wonderful, and the history has been stunning. It has really reawakened my love for history, I keep telling myself “make sure to look that up when you get back” (Check out the family behind Monaco for one). We’ve also gotten used to the French language, and a jarring Texas accent suddenly makes you realize how we must sound sometimes.
Hopefully we’ll have time to make it back, but if not – I don’t think you could possible cram more of France into 3 weeks. Enjoyed every minute of it.
