Oh how I miss thee....the Dutch are not exactly the most adventurous of food explorers. They have for some odd reason latched on to spicy Indonesia food, but can't seem to figure out Mexican. Oh, and if they offer an American hamburger....careful....they often mean steak tartar. Please reference my earlier discourse on office lunch for further zaniness.
If you ever wonder at the price you must pay to enter the luxurous bed and breakfast on Overtoom - it is the storied packets of American guocamole spice from legend that shall pave your way! Nadirah's mother just recently visited for a few weeks, and we had a wonderful time going all over the Netherlands and Belgium. Sooooo muuuch chololate.
It's a beautiful afternoon - 70s and sunny, and a visit to the deck is now in order!

Um yeah, if you could just go ahead and order the steak tartar, that would be great....
You should see the thing, they have it in our lunchroom all the time - they just flop a little ball of raw ground beef on a burger bun! Imagine my excitement on "American hamburger" day after weeks of bread/cheese - only to be crushed by this discovery.
So they have a misinterpretation of what an American hamburger is. Next you'll be telling me that Canadian bacon really isn't bacon!
I think the answer to the Mexican food problem is simply that there are so many Mexicans in the US southwest, while I'm sure there aren't many in Amsterdam. Whereas they're more likely to get the Indonesian immigrants.
Cool site, glad to see things are going well, I'll have to check in more often.
